Jeff is a valuable resource for clients and staff alike at Matsen, Miller, Cossa & Gray, PLLC. A retired military officer with private sector experience in enterprise networks, Jeff provides the firm with support as needed.
Jeff is a retired Marine Officer with tours in infantry and intelligence. His assignments included commanding a rifle and 81mm mortar platoon while forward deploying to the Western Pacific with the 11th and 13th Marine Expeditionary Units (MEUs). He was then assigned as a Force Reconnaissance Platoon commander and then a Firepower Control Team leader for Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company known by the acronym “ANGLICO”. While assigned to ANGLICO he served with the Japanese Self Defense Forces, Royal Thai Marines and the Republic of Korea (ROK) Marines. In these tours his Chinese heritage and Mandarin language skills enabled him to effectively communicate with the host nation forces.
He later moved to the Intelligence field where his assignments included Team Commander of 31st Interrogator Translator Team and Course Director for two courses at the Navy-Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center (NMITC) in Dam Neck, VA. He later transferred to NORTHCOM where he was assigned to the Future Operations / Plans section for its standup and activation before transferring to support the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He retired in 2008.
Jeff worked in the private sector for a short time providing contracted support to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and then as a subject matter expert for Lockheed Martin’s Counter IED task force. A successful graduate of the FBI’s Firearms Instructor Development Course, he occasionally teaches shooting to the public.
A lifelong martial artist and a certified personal trainer / strength coach, Jeff enjoys training a small cadre of private clients, including a world champion kick boxer.
When not supporting his clients or the firm, he’s the ‘stay at home’ Dad for his and Rhonda’s two children, Jennifer and Joshua.
